Patrick Reed wins Masters 2018 at Augusta

For several days, everyone was pointing toward the Saturday weather forecast, and, as late as Friday evening, it looked like it would rain for much of the day, with a 90 percent forecast for the afternoon. It looked like he might have himself a bit of a victory parade on Sunday with a three-stroke lead. "I just didn't quite have it". This was his first time in the final pair since 2011, when he blew up on the 10th.

That round haunted McIlroy. "I started the round nine shots back and I came out with the idea of just playing the golf course and having a lot of fun doing it and try to shoot a low round and finish the tournament strong and see what happens, if something insane happens". Jordan Spieth was so far back that even his final-round 64 did not really worry Reed.

Then there was Spieth, who started the day nine behind Reed.

"He's always been a fighter", Rickie Fowler said after his third runner-up finish in a major. However, Justine had their passes revoked as Reed made his way to the 18th hole. Which is not to say it was easy. Instead, I got this putt that you've got to hit sideways.

"It's just kind of one of those things that I've been working on it and trying to tap into Ryder Cups more and more and try to play some solid golf".

He also seemed to enjoy the time spent outdoors, despite the fact that observers often get as much exercise as the golfers themselves, nothing that "I'm sure I've lost weight due to all the walking!" Reed found a way to cope.

"I had expectations, as he probably did too, but the fact is he is just coming back from such a long layoff and I think it's positive what he's doing", said Ryan Godsey, a 41-year-old teacher from Greenville, South Carolina. Their business was already settled.

A day earlier he shot 65 and issued a veiled warning to Reed that three shots was nothing on a Sunday afternoon at the Masters.

Hoffman flirted with the bunker left of the 16th green, only to catch a fortuitous kick that sent the ball right into the hole.

Jon Rahm of Spain was fourth with a total of 277. And when McIlroy uncorked a pinpoint approach on the 2nd, he looked the likely victor. His 8-foot par putt for a record-tying 63 narrowly missed on the right. Which is the first of a few what-ifs he will be left with.

"It's where I went to college", Patrick Reed said in the Butler Cabin, on a day when he ended up schooling everybody at the Masters. But as his putting woes continued-he missed at least five makeable putts inside 10 feet on the front nine -Reed pulled ahead and Mcllroy fell by the wayside. That was the end of it.

"If it weren't for this tournament called The Masters, I would be there to send off the Sedins".

Described by some as a fiery competitor and a blowhard showboater by others, Reed is one of golf's more polarising figures - no more so than when he is representing the United States on the global stage.

But Reed had a pretty clear idea of what happened. "I usually take three to four weeks off". Nicklaus' grand kids made a big scene.

The most notable aspect of his immediate post round celebration wasn't who was there - his wife Justine, a regular on Tour, was the first to greet him with a kiss - but who wasn't there.

Last year's champ Sergio Garcia presents the green jacket to Reed.

"I feel like this is a year to knock off our first", he said. Some decent results early this year indicated Woods was on the mend and this T32 finish at Augusta felt good, despite his poor iron play. So he has the game to win here.
