Local residents travel to Washington DC for March for Our Lives

As the United States saw one of its biggest protests in decades over the gun control laws in the country, a group of people in Mumbai also took out a "March For Our Lives" demonstration to the USA consulate on March 25 to express their solidarity with their friends, family and others in America.

"I am really upset about what all has been happening", Lilia Potter said. Todd Guess, Maddie's father, said he was proud of his daughter's and other students' activism.

"Common sense gun laws work and we will work to get rid of people who do not stand up for the lives of our children", she said.

Anna Crisp, a teacher at Robbinsville High School in Robbinsville, North Carolina, is new to teaching and has already experienced effects from the ongoing fear of school shootings in the United States. Over 800 sibling marches were held in cities across the USA and overseas. So, they scrambled to organize the trip, getting the word out to students, calling bus companies, getting permission slips from parents, and eventually securing a bus that left East Hampton at 5 a.m. on Saturday for the six-hour ride to the capital.

The national organization behind the march said more than 800 marches took place around the world Saturday. But they clearly had help from the established gun-control lobbies who are now bankrolling the Parkland survivors' crusade.

The student organizers are still planning their next steps, Wright said, but the goal is to continue bridging the geographic gap between suburban and urban students.

Congressman Deutch says Saturday's march was the beginning of a national, withstanding movement and that Congress will take action.

Though the entire event was filled with speakers that delivered an enormous amount of power and emotion, perhaps one of the most impactful moments was one that involved no speech at all. But for one time in my life, the adults were looking up to kids, literally and figuratively, and leaving it up to us to implement a change.
