IWD: UN celebrates the power of activism

Today is a day of action and a day for celebrating the achievements of women.

And in Washington D.C. observance of International Women's day will include the International Women's Day Forum, along with rallies outside the White House and Capitol Building.

A woman draws a mural on a office window in Fitzrovia during International Women's Day on March 8, 2018 in London, United Kingdom.

"Time is Now theme (of the UN) resonates strongly with our movement in light of the fact that almost four years after 276 girls were kidnapped from a secondary school in Chibok in Borno State, 110 girls were kidnapped from a secondary school in Dapchi in Yobe State 17 days ago".

Since the first IWD was celebrated exactly 110 years ago to press for women's right to vote, work and end gender discrimination, there's no mistaking that women have made admirable strides on virtually every front. And with global activism for women's equality fuelled by movements like #MeToo, #TimesUp and more - there is a strong global momentum striving for gender parity.

Several other powerful actors, producers and politicians have since been called out by the women they harassed using their privileged positions of authority. All those who abuse women and girls should not go scot-free.

Netflix Marvel's Jessica Jones S2 twice the entertainment
After checking out an advance look at the first five new episodes, I can confirm that Jessica's starting back at the beginning. Her alter-ego, Hellcat , was created by Steve Englehart and George Perez, and first appeared in TheAvengers #144 (1976).

"Gender equality is enshrined in countless laws, and harmful practices like female genital mutilation and child marriage have been outlawed in many countries". When women fall victims of insecurity like the recent serial murders in Entebbe, why do we see women-related rights bodies advocating for justice.

Let's celebrate this day by giving recognition to the role of women in society, and highlighting opportunities for the often untapped potential of women to the socio-economic agenda and their competence as leaders. Today is an opportunity for us to add our voices to the discussions to get us closer to our goal.

Morocco will take part in the 62nd annual session of the Commission on Status of Women (CSW), according to a communiqué from the Ministry of Social Development, Family and Solidarity, as reported by MAP. We need to realise that gender equality is no longer relative, but must be absolute.

"Just because we've achieved gender balance doesn't mean that it's necessarily easy to maintain", said Ixtabalan.

"To help do this, we have introduced a number of initiatives, such as the Women Leading in Education programme, and in December 2017 we announced an £1.8 million fund to help schools increase the diversity of their senior teams".
