United States women's hockey team thumps Finland, moves into gold medal game

The Americans scored twice in the first period, twice in the second and rolled over Finland 5-0 at the Gangneung Hockey Center to punch their ticket to the gold medal game. Updates with quotes. Will be updated.

Knowing the rival Americans had advanced to play for gold, Canada entered their semifinal meeting with the Olympic Athletes from Russian Federation with the opportunity to book their own ticket to the final in Pyeongchang.

Team Canada celebrates a goal against the Olympic Athletes from Russian Federation on February 19. The trio of Americans finished in third, fourth and 11th, as Bowman fell on all three of her runs, unable to defend her gold medal win from 2014.

Gigi Marvin started the scoring with a goal.

Sun Valley women's hockey star Hilary Knight is one win away from achieving the one goal she brought with her to the 2018 Winter Olympics.

The identical 5-0 wins set up the third-straight Olympic gold-medal game between U.S. and Canada, to the surprise no one. "I think it's awesome at the world's biggest stage to be able to watch two powerhouses go at it".

While the US players say they were focused entirely on Finland Monday, many have safely presumed since Sochi that the two North American countries were destined for an Winter Games rematch. They edged the United States women in over-time for 2014 Olympic gold but have lost the past three world finals to the Americans. They're a tough team to beat and we needed to have gold-medal preparation and I like that.

Later that period, Dani Cameranesi made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal.

Only 45 seconds into the third period, Cameranesi scored again, this time assisted by Amanda Kessel and Hannah Brandt.

Shannon Szabados was not overworked but turned in a rock- solid effort in the Canadian net, making 14 saves for the shutout.

Stauber reunited Lamoureux-Davidson on the same line with her sister, Monique Lamoureux-Morando, just before these Olympics, and the twins have combined for five points in three games on a line with Kelly Pannek.

Stauber said he has tinkered less with the game plan based on their familiarity with the Finns, the world's third-ranked team previous year. When asked her opinion on which team had the advantage in the gold medal showdown, Finnish netminder Noora Raty had this to say: "It's tough".

"Only sports can unify the people, beyond the politics, beyond the barriers, and putting players from North and South Korea on the same team was a very proud moment, one that is a true symbol of peace". Our plan coming in was to repeat the good habits that we talked about earlier in the tournament.

The Americans opened these games by beating the Finns 3-1. In their preliminary-round match with Canada last week, the Americans dominated play but lost 2-1, their fifth straight defeat against the Canadians.

Now, with another chance at gold, perhaps against a team in Canada that has dogged the Americans in recent Olympics, the ideal for this U.S. team is to produce a new set of highlights to be played above the ice for years to come. She was knocked off balance before crashing face-first into the boards, snapping her head back.

No penalty was assessed and Savolainen returned for limited action in the second and third periods.

(ThyBlackMan.com) Quiet as its kept Valentine's Day can causes fights and break-ups instead of a time of celebrating love. Another story suggests that Valentine may have been a prisoner who fell in love with a girl who was his jailor's daughter.
