Cardinals Defeat 49ers on Larry Fitzgerald TD Catch in OT

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald added another big play to his résumé Sunday afternoon, with his 19-yard touchdown catch with 32 seconds remaining in overtime giving the Cardinals the 18-15 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

NO ATONEMENT: Phil Dawson had uncharacteristically missed a field goal in each of the first three games. By the end of the game, the 49ers were able to rack up six sacks, their highest total this season.

Still, he finished 33 of 51 for 357 yards.

With David Johnson (RB) out until at least December, and a makeshift offensive line, the game plan for Arizona will likely look the same from here on out - throw, throw, and throw some more. We're a team. We don't hate each other because of our different beliefs and I think that's something that the country needs to understand as well. Every time we play San Francisco, they give us their best shot.

BETHEA PICKS OFF HOYER Former 49ers safety Antoine Bethea intercepted the 20th pass of his career, and few were probably as easy as the gift he received late in the first half.

ANTHEM: The 49ers, with whom the national anthem issue began with Colin Kaepernick's kneeling during it more than a year ago, had their first chance to react to President Trump's criticism of athletes kneeling during the song. Later, Dawson was successful on a 50-yard attempt, this one tied the game at 9 at the 6:50 mark of the third quarter.

Both of these teams have struggled to get their opponents offenses off of the field on 3rd down this year. "It's nice to contribute to a team win and I'll take that any day of the week".

Two potential touchdown catches were reviewed.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Baltimore Ravens
No one was out there saying the defense needs to get better or that Ben Roethlisberger and Le'Veon Bell are on their way out. Tuitt suffered an arm injury two plays into the regular-season opener at Cleveland and finally returned against Baltimore .

Where it is affecting the Cardinals the most is in their red zone offense, which is operating at a shoddy 27 percent clip. He scored the game-winning touchdown, of course, but I like kickers. On third-and-goal from the 12-yard line, Carson Palmer connected with running back Andre Ellington for what appeared to be a touchdown. "It was one of those games where we felt very good with our defense matching up with their offense and field goals are OK sometimes". The Cardinals never recovered from that play. The Niners sacked Palmer six times, with veteran Elvis Dumervil getting two and No. 1 pick Solomon Thomas the first of his National Football League career. In addition, he was hit 16 times, 11 of which occurred in the first half. Arizona had to piece things together on the left side of its offensive line with injuries to left tackle D.J. Humphries and guards Mike Iupati and Alex Boone. The other was Brown's 25-yard catch that was ruled incomplete because his second foot didn't come down in bounds, although the replay made it look awfully close to a touchdown. And fortunately for the Cardinals, it was their touchdown.

San Francisco got the ball first in overtime and wasted as much time as possible in the 10-minute period before kicking a field goal with just over two minutes left.

The Cardinals lost outside linebacker Markus Golden to what could be a significant knee injury.

The defense seemed to be playing a, "bend but don't break", philosophy to start out the game. Whether it was a result of Arizona's pressure or a lack of chemistry between his targets, Brian Hoyer continued his inconsistent play.

- The Cardinals improved to 5-0-1 in their last six games against the NFC West under Arians.

Numerous standing players placed one hand on their heart, the other on the shoulder of a kneeling teammate in a sign of solidarity.

"They weren't doing what they were doing earlier (on Fitzgerald)", Palmer said.
