Florida beats Tennessee on Hail Mary, 26-20: 3 takeaways

Gators freshman QB Feleipe Franks threw a pass almost 70 yards on the fly that was caught by Tyrie Cleveland in the end zone to give Florida a 26-20 win over the Vols on the final play of the game. Florida was a frustrated team after losing to MI in the season opener and then having to wait two weeks to play again due to Hurricane Irma. Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks somehow escaped a minimal Big Orange pass rush and heaved the football 70 yards down the field toward Tyrie Cleveland, who's from Houston, which means he has had a double dose of fret and fear these past few weeks.

Prior to the touchdown, the Volunteers scored 10 unanswered points to tie it at 20-20 with 50 seconds remaining.

Two years ago, Will Grier found Antonio Callaway for a 63-yard touchdown on a fourth-and-12 play with 1:26 remaining that propelled Florida to a 28-27 victory.

Finally, on first-and-goal, Franks threw a short pass to Powell, who was able to get in the end zone and put an end to the scoring drought. He was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for doing the "Gator Chomp" in the end zone, and the penalty helped the Gators get the ball in Tennessee territory.

Instead of a touchdown, the Gators turned the ball over and gave the Vols another lease on life, up 13-3 instead of being up by potentially 17 points.

"They wore on us a little bit and we did miss some tackles", Florida coach Jim McElwain said.

Once again Tennessee's defense left a lot to be desired late in the game, but unlike against Georgia Tech this time there would be no happy ending for the Vols.

But in the delirium Florida's punter has tweeted one of the most savage of all barbs at the Vols, albeit one which isn't unique. They certainly did on this play.

Irma leaves two thirds of Florida without power
CNN drone footage from Barbuda on Friday showed almost every house and building ripped open or torn apart. However, the system will still continue to maintain Hurricane Jose in the waters of the Atlantic.

"With Hurricane Irma, we had to come out and get the W", Cleveland told ESPN.

Then there was that first-and-goal inside the Florida 1 with around eight minutes left in the third period.

"Growing up, I always dreamed of making that game-winning touchdown", Cleveland said.

"Oh my gosh, it's indescribable", Franks said.

There's no telling how much despair Florida's fan base would be feeling right now had the Gators blown a 13-3 lead, especially after UT found its offensive rhythm following Davis' gut-wrenching fumble at the goal line.

The Vols needed the rally because of three Quinten Dormady interceptions caused by a stingy Florida defense. They had 23 first downs to Florida's 14.

Freshman running back J.K. Dobbins rolled up 172 rushing yards in a 38-7 win by No. 8 Ohio State (2-1) over visiting Army (2-1). Early in the fourth, CJ Henderson picked off a pass for a 16-yard interception return for the TD.
