Sunday's late flight in from Atlanta at 9:45 p.m. has been canceled, as have all five flights (three outbound and two inbound to Albany) that had been scheduled for Monday. It is unlikely these airports will reopen before Tuesday.

Limited operations at the airport, the country's 12th largest, were set to resume at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Gonzalez said on Twitter.

The final scheduled flight from Tallahassee International Airport left Sunday (Sept. 10) evening ahead of Hurricane Irma, which is ripping its way up the state of Florida. Dayton worldwide airport, which has several direct flights to those cities, has had almost a dozen flights cancelled Monday. Other airlines will resume service Tuesday.

Roughly 175 of those workers were American Airlines employees, a group known as the "Storm Riders".

A businessman said he was able to get his 2:45 p.m. flight rescheduled for an 8 p.m. departure.

"Thanks, Dan", the airport said. American added: "The current travel alert that has been issued allows customers whose travel plans are impacted by Hurricane Irma to rebook without change fees".

CNN reported the airport had sustained "significant water damage throughout". An addition 275 canceled flights involved an airport in SC or Georgia.
