Legion, community celebrate Memorial Day

St. Helena's American Legion Post 199 will hold its traditional Memorial Day observances, beginning at 10 a.m., Monday at the St. Helena Public Cemetery, 2461 Spring St. Following a brief ceremony at the veterans memorial near the high school, the parade will go along OH 60 to the Beverly Cemetery where a memorial ceremony will be held for the veterans buried in the cemetery before moving to Waterford with a stop on the Beverly-Waterford Bridge. The parade, which features local firefighters and emergency personnel and community groups plus local veterans, proceeds up Canada St.to Shepard Park, where a ceremony is conducted.

This year's speaker will be Nick Bell, Chaplain (Major), U.S. Army (Ret.).

Monday evening at 6 p.m., the post will offer pizza loin (tenderloin with pizza sauce and cheese) sandwiches for $5.

Service and Procession: The service begins at the Veterans' Memorial in Jewett Park, 836 Jewett Park Drive, followed by a process to Deerfield Cemetery, located at Waukegan Road and Central Avenue.

West Stockbridge: Parade at 10 a.m. Monday on Main Street to the Town Hall on State Road.

NORTHAMPTON-10:00am-The parade departs from Trinity Row Park in Florence, continues through the center of Florence, down Park Street, circles down Pine Street, turning on to Maple Street, and back to the center, ending at the cemetery on Park Street. The actual dedication of the new plaque will take place during Heritage Days in July.

From there the group moves to similar ceremonies at the Soldiers Monument, then the Dunstan and Scarborough Memorial cemeteries. Memorial Day ceremonies will be at Lynd Cemetery at 8 a.m.; Green Valley Cemetery at 8:45 a.m.; Marshall Cemetery at 9:15 a.m.; and Calvary Cemetery at 10 a.m.

Hancock: Parade at 11 a.m. Sundayforms on Main Street and marches to the cemetery on Route 43 for a Memorial Day service. Following the parade there will be food booths and games in front of Corvallis High School until 1 p.m. A luncheon of turkey, gravy and biscuits will be served at Heroes from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. Veterans and their spouses are invited to attend the luncheon for free.

The Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. and end at the Rockford American Legion.

A parade will follow, stepping off from the Veterans Memorial at 9:30 a.m. and proceed to Park Cemetery, where a service will take place.

GERRY- The Memorial Day parade in the town of Gerry will be held on Sunday.

Flags go out at Lakeview Cemetery in Two Harbors on today starting at approximately 8:30 a.m. The North Warren High School Marching Band will be performing selections in the event.

The Cedar Springs Historical Society will hold its 17 annual Memorial Cemetery Walk on Sunday, May 28, at 2 p.m.to honor veterans of all wars.

11 a.m. - Memorial Day Service at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 2600 Muscatine Ave.
