Capitals overwhelm Penguins 5-2 to force Game 7

The Pittsburgh Penguins have blown a 3-1 series lead and now head to a Game 7.

Every day during the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Canes Country recaps the night before, previews the games for that night, and gives you game times and broadcast information.

In 2009, the Penguins beat the Capitals, 6-2, in Game 7 of an Eastern Conference semifinal at Washington.

"This is the first time this series Pittsburgh has their back against the wall as well", Trotz said. While Burakovsky had been consistently generating scoring chances, he didn't have production at the time, making the change odd on the surface. And we still have our back against the wall.

Game 7 is Wednesday at the Verizon Center at 7:30 p.m.

It's no surprise this series is heading to Game 7, but how it got to that point is pretty shocking.

Pittsburgh's Jake Guentzel and Evgeni Malkin scored in the final four minutes. Not that it bothers the Capitals.

The victor advances to the Eastern Conference final to face the New York Rangers or Ottawa.

The reason why Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was not removed from Game 6 after a head-first collision into the boards is simple, according to the National Hockey League, concussion spotters did not have the authority to do so.

Sullivan said Crosby was not evaluated for a concussion, and Crosby said he had the wind knocked out of him. "If you're looking for a test when you're coming back that's a good one". It wasn't quite the first period we wanted, but the last 40 [minutes] were really good for us.

Zuccarello leads Rangers to 4-1 win over Senators in Game 3
Much like in Game 3, the Rangers completely carved up the Senators 1-3-1 trap, and made easy work of them in the offensive zone. Sens coach Guy Boucher decided to make a statement to his team, though, by inserting Mike Condon in goal for the third period.

In the third period, Nicklas Backstrom, Evgeny Kuznetzov and Ovechkin scored, while Braden Holtby stopped all 12 of the Penguins shot attempts.

Monday's game was Crosby's second consecutive game since missing Game 4 on May 3 for a concussion he suffered on May 1. "That's going to be a tough task but I think it's something we have the right guys and the right mentality right now to do that". "If we keep just pounding pucks. he's going to get exhausted". There was a sequence in the second period that they couldn't clear their own zone for awhile and the Capitals just kept buzzing.

Chris Nowinski, the co-founder and CEO of the Concussion Legacy Foundation, told USA TODAY Sports that the league has a "a poorly written policy that should be amended before the puck is dropped in another NHL game". He went on to miss the rest of that game and sat out Game 4.

Although the Pens lost by three goals, Marc-Andre Fleury really wasn't one of Pittsburgh's main problems, per se - he had his fair share of quick-footed saves against the puck-controlling Caps.

The Capitals say don't care about the past. Washington scored in every period, scored twice on the power play, was flawless on the penalty kill, and needed just 26 shots on goal to score five times.

Of course, the pressure is on the Capitals to overcome past playoff failures. Which team will advance to the Eastern Conference Finals?

It feels like the Pittsburgh Penguins blew their chance to close out this series, and now the Capitals are in a comfortable spot where they'll be very confident on their home ice. This time his left skate appeared to clip the post as he cut through the crease and Washington defenceman John Carlson appeared to lean lightly on the 8 and the 7.

"You talk to the doctor", Crosby said Tuesday.

The Capitals have played a smart brand of hockey, completely removing the odd-man rushes the other way.
