Microsoft unveils Windows 10 S for its Surface laptops

Microsoft has unveiled a new Surface laptop today at its education event in NY, coming on June 15 and starting at $999. Which Microsoft is expected to launch later today.

The Surface Laptop will also reportedly 2.76 pounds, with a thickness of 14.47mm at the back and 9.9mm at the front. And with the images, we already know that the Surface Laptop will have a USB port Type A, a port DisplayPort, and a port jack.

At the #MicrosoftEDU event today, Microsoft announced a brand-new version of Windows 10, Windows 10 S, which is aimed at students and is a competitor to Chrome OS - Google's lightweight operating system for Chromebooks.

Microsoft Surface Laptop will be available in four colour options - Burgundy, Cobalt Blue, Grey and Platinum. A release date of June 18 is being mooted, although that will no doubt be confirmed or denied later today.

With this new OS, which is expected to be like the original but with a few deviations, the company will want to improve the battery life by limiting the software to Windows Store apps. It also is created to work with the Surface Dial and Surface Pen accessories from Microsoft's Surface desktop and tablets. It has a familiar form factor, essentially right in line with the Surface Book, most notably with its a 13.5-inch PixelSense touchscreen display with 3:2 aspect ratio.
