The Shockers should be well-suited to start strong against a schedule that includes a trip to Oklahoma State and Oklahoma at Intrust Bank Arena. The game was a one-possession game in the closing minutes, but United Kingdom blocks on the Shockers last two possessions sealed the 65-62 victory for the Cats. North Carolina or Butler await the victor on Sunday. That national title? It covers up some real questions about just what the legacy of this team will be. That effort vs. Wichita State was good enough. But some of those moments - though tremendous and instrumental for us to win - made fans want to pull their hair out. "They really grind it out". And now, the Bruins will play the same Kentucky team they beat in Lexington in December.
There were many plays to recognize.
How many times do people like this say things like, "Can I see your manager?" or "Do you know who I am?" He had to avoid Hawkins to get into the play, because colliding with him might have created a foul and it certainly would have impeded a block attempt. "Never had to play defense", he said. As soon as he picked (the ball) up, I knew what he was going to do.
But this wasn't simply a Hawkins/Adebayo show.
For Wichita State, the Shockers finished the season at 31-5 and eyeing more respect in the postseason. Las Vegas oddsmakers regarded the Shockers as one of the best 20 teams in the country, too.
Ten years since taking the job in Wichita, Marshall is now a household name in college basketball.
So close yet so far for Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons
They aren’t elite by any stretch of the imagination but Quinn’s “Legion of Boom” mentality is paying off. Matt Ryan defied the odds to lead the Falcons to the brink of victory before coming up short in the closing stages of the game.
For the Wildcats to reach the Final Four, they'll need more from Malik Monk, their most unsafe player but also their most inconsistent. Monk then went to the line and knocked down a pair of free throws to make it a three-point game. "We know that. It's pretty evident". Coach John Calipari later said he's been limited by a bruised lower back. When Marshall tried to confuse Kentucky by switching to a 1-3-1 zone defense in the final two minutes, Fox twisted, wiggled and then roared away from his defender before soaring for a dazzling left-handed dunk.
I'm not saying a normal fan doesn't have to just sit there like they're at an opera.
NCAA guys stood over me and made me delete the tweet. He kept Willis in the game. Monk and fellow freshman De'Aaron Fox led the Wildcats with 14 points, while Adebayo posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. I just hope he maintains that level of tenacity when Kentucky Basketball travels to Memphis to take on UCLA this Friday. And the game is in Memphis, where Calipari coached for nearly a decade.
"It was great to have Malik back", Calipari said.
The Cats got virtually no love from the Worldwide Leader heading into the Big Dance, so it's no surprise to see they're not high on Kentucky entering the next round.
