It's a lot to take in, and if you made a decision to just settle on one primary game to set your television to, you wouldn't have been disappointed if it was Princeton-Notre Dame. Notre Dame did that on Thursday and they did so without playing their best game. It took a Rex Pflueger tip in with just 1.5 seconds remaining to push the Irish into the Sweet Sixteen. Elijah Macon, Esa Ahmad and Lamont West all played well in the paint in the opener, and Philip was able to drive to the hoop all game.
Ang: Joined now by Bonzie Colson. "We can't play man-to-man the whole game", Brey said. But Notre Dame is not a team known for its incredible quickness.
Meanwhile, Princeton (23-7), which was riding a 19-game winning streak, was led by Spencer Weisz with 15 points. While Beachem and Farrell enjoyed strong seasons, both misfired against the Blue Devils by shooting 1-for-6 from 3-point range and the team went 6-for-25 from beyond the arc in the loss. Defensively, Princeton is yielding 61.6 points against the opposing teams.
The Jackrabbits (18-17) led for the first 17 minutes and stayed in range for most of the game. Amir Bell took a feed from Myles Stephens and drove it inside, making the layup and one and converting the three point play.
Notre Dame fans weren't too thrilled that Thursday's 1st round win over Princeton came down to the buzzer and almost ended the Irish's pursuit of a third straight Elite 8 berth before it began.
The Irish can light up the scoreboard, and they'll do that against the undersized Tigers. The Tigers would never lead in the game again. "We play one heck of a team (Saturday) - and we're going to have to play great to get it - but to get to the second weekend a third time in a row, it's putting the program in a real kind of elite status".
"I was just telling them, our game's about numbers, you know?" Steven Cook had 11 points and seven rebounds.
Klay Thompson leads the Warriors in scoring in Wednesday's loss
Whether that will be in time to keep home court advantage is questionable. "That's what I'm thinking about at this point". Speaking to nba.com about the hyper-extended knee he suffered, he said: "It could have been a lot worse, I hurt my knee".
For essentially the first time this season, we as fans saw BONZIE as human during the ACC Championship game when he rolled his ankle and proved to not be completely impervious to harm.
In the second half, a great deal of this changed.
The Irish only got eight points off the bench against the Tigers, but there have been promising signs from the regular reserves of late.
No. 5 Virginia 76, No. 12 UNC-Wilmington 71: London Perrantes was clutch down the stretch for the Cavaliers and scored 24 points. "Then you have to back it off and run some half-court offense". It was a low-scoring affair that featured all the hallmarks of entertaining basketball: missed free throws, little to no fast break points and beaucoup missed shots. Then the madness ensued.
Matt Farrell's miss on the front end of a one-and-one with 11 seconds left was particularly bad, as it gave Princeton a very real opportunity to win the game. ND missed two free throws in the final 15 seconds but won 60-58. He is 3-4 in those games. West Virginia employs an aggressive, in-your-face brand of defense while Notre Dame has one of the most aesthetically pleasing offenses in the country, with shooters all over the floor. "We didn't play very well".
WVU only held a 3-point edge in points off turnovers and forced only two more than Bucknell, earning a "B-minus" grade from senior guard Tarik Phillip. "We struggle offensively at times this year, but our defense has always been solid". We're not flawless and that's what they do. "Big games, big moments and just keep delivering, just how ... everyone's been delivering". I'm also just not ready to say goodbye to Julia Louis-Dreyfus, yet.
"They don't let us pick", he said dryly after a brief pause. "I just want to be clear on that", he said. "Every year, when the brackets come out, people look at the Ivy League and see what matchup we have".
