Sasikala sacks AIADMK Puducherry leader

After Ms Jayalalithaa's death, the AIADMK said that Sasikala will be Amma's natural replacement as leader of the party.

If Sasikala is held guilty and the SC upholds the trial court verdict which had sentenced her to 4 years imprisonment, then she would be barred from contesting an election for the next 10 years as per the Representation of Peoples' Act.

Correspondents say it is unclear whether Mr Panneerselvam will be able to garner the requisite support, although many people in the state have opposed Ms Natarajan's elevation.

"Definitely the DMK is a party that is just waiting in the wings".

Again, the events unfolding in Tamil Nadu today bear an uncanny resemblance.

I told them I wasnt in a mental position to become CM. Rajya Sabha MP V Maitreyan said, "I feel that the rank and file of the party will rally behind Panneerselvam". But i forgave him for that.

"I was forced to resign by my own ministers, although I was Jayalalithaa's choice".

Wednesday storm watch upgraded to warning
Coastal parts of southeastern New England and eastern Long Island may approach blizzard conditions Thursday afternoon. The precipitation will taper to scattered showers by early Wednesday , but slick spots will remain, especially inland.

The Karnataka high court had acquitted all four individuals accused of conspiring to amass Rs530 million (US$7.89 million), disproportionate to their known sources of income, in May 2015. Enemies are coming thick and fast. "We don't know what decision he will take and what would Delhi advise (him)".

On Tuesday evening, Mr Panneerselvam visited a "monument" erected in honour of Jayalalitha at the Marina beach in the capital, Chennai (Madras). On her allegation that DMK is backing his revolt, he said, "She should be asked to explain the basis of her charge. There are reasons to believe that Sasikala is still a pawn at the hands of her relatives-the Mannargudi Mafia-and that even now she can't take any decision independently".

Madusudanan, who joined the rival camp led by Chief Minister O Pannerselvam, disclosed this to reporters yesterday shortly before he was sacked from AIADMK by Sasikala for "acting against the party".

Meanwhile, The Hindu has reported that 13 AIADMK party workers have been arrested in Tamil Nadus Tiruchi district, for burning effigies of Panneerselvam.

This follows a day after Madhusudhanan extended his support to Chief Minister O. Pannerselvam, who had revolted against Sasikala after she was appointed Legislative Party leader of the AIADMK that will make her Chief Minister of the State.

Near Poes Garden, former minister B Valarmathi said the party cadres are perturbed that Panneerselvam has fallen into DMK's trap.
