Dry Christmas trees can quickly become a fire hazard. The National Christmas Tree Association is urging people to stop throwing out their real Christmas trees and to start recycling them instead.
The city is granting residents trash amnesty from Tuesday, December 27 to Saturday, December 31. Please remove all plastic tarps, tree stands and nails, ornaments, lights, garland and tinsel.

If you plan to take your Christmas tree to the curb in the city of Kalamazoo this year, don't. Residents should put their trees out for curbside collection by that morning. Residents can drop their trees off in the designated location during daylight hours through Sunday, Jan. 8. Trees and greenery collected after January 27 will be collected with the trash as space permits in the truck.

The city Parks Department will host its annual Mulchfest event on Saturday, Jan. 7, and Sunday, Jan. 8, from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. Trees end up on lawns, in backyards or get thrown in the trash.
