Steelers end Giants' winning streak at 6 in 24-14 victory

Beckham took particular issue with an offensive pass interference call in the first quarter that backed the Giants up against their end zone.

The Giants clearly made a halftime adjustment with their star receiver, because when the second half began, Eli Manning tried to force-feed Beckham the ball.

The Steelers got that victory and did so in impressive fashion, limiting the Giants to 234 yards and turning Le'Veon Bell loose for 118 yards on 29 bruising carries in a 24-14 victory at Heinz Field.

The blame can be put squarely on the offense. "People say it's a game of inches and its true there". It's been the norm lately. But what got Beckham upset was when he asked an official for an explanation of the call.

With a defence that has now not allowed more than 20 points in the past six games, they never trailed.

We spent a week building up to a game featuring these two quarterbacks who'd been taken in the same 2004 draft, opening a sort of football referendum on the two first-round picks and their matching two-time Super Bowl-winning résumés. Manning had a chance to get NY back in the game on a fourth-and-one opportunity from the three-yard line, but couldn't connect with Will Tye in the end zone. Bell gave them another 9 yards but two incomplete passes afterward forced them to punt. NY will now have to go back to the Big Apple and evaluate what went wrong.

Cardinals swarm Cousins, Redskins for win in the desert
We're not even thinking about playoffs right now. "He [has] got to get under his team's [butt] like that after a loss like this". With less than two minutes to play, Cousins and company were able to move the ball all the way to Arizona's 28-yard line.

This matchup had major playoff implications, and with the Giants offence contining to wilt, their chances next week against Dallas don't look good.

"We believe we have the players and the scheme to make a run at this thing", McAdoo said. "Sometimes he might just be the second or third progression on some things and (we don') get through everything".

More pressing is finding a way to get New York's offense back on track quickly with NFC East-leading Dallas looming next week. Both teams face off next Sunday night with the Cowboys win pretty much icing the division crown. Even against lousy teams, their offense was unable to fire on all cylinders.

One good play was all it would have taken to erase a forgettable first quarter, one good play to bury the freaky sequence of events that led to the Giants trailing by a safety and a field goal, one good play to ignite an offense that has yet to hit full speed this season. Seeing Lawrence Timmons come up with a huge red-zone interception, and his inside linebacker partner Ryan Shazier have a big pass defense on 4th down proved to show a maturation in the overall unit's game. Prior to Sterling Shepard's garbage-time touchdown in the game's final minute, New York's lone score was a 13-yard screen pass to Rashad Jennings, capitalizing on a Bell fumble inside Pittsburgh's 17-yard line. It was another weekend of offensive struggles for "Big Blue" whose offense hasn't been awful this year but is a far cry from what was supposed to be a prolific unit.

While Odell Beckham Jr. hauled in 10 passes for 100 yards and was targeted 16 times in all, Manning didn't throw Victor Cruz's way once. Beckham, who hung out with Brown on the eve of the game, likened the smile to simple admiration of Brown's ability.

"I feel real fortunate because I played with two great quarterbacks", said Green, who played with Philip Rivers when he was a Charger. By then Vernon had a sack for a fifth consecutive game but Pierre Paul had left with a groin injury for the dressing room, and repairs - something the Giants offence sorely needed as well. DT Johnathan Hankins (quad) is sore, while WR/returner Dwayne Harris has an ankle injury. He also didn't think referee Terry McAulay's crew should officiate any more Giants games. McAdoo would not comment on that. The Giants went for it again and again turned the ball over when Manning threw an interception to safety Sean Davis. "We're going to get plenty of use out of that process this week".
