Nintendo has officially unveiled its next console.

It was worth the wait. "The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles", reads the video's description.

The main console unit of Nintendo Switch is the LCD screen and detachable Joy-Con controllers, with the Dock simply providing some basic additional functionality, Nintendo has confirmed to IGN. When played without a TV screen, a user needs to attach two small controller pieces - Joy-Con (R) and Joy-Con (L) - on both sides of a hand-size monitor.

So is the Switch more like the Wii or the 3DS? The games previewed in the video were: a new Mario title, Splatoon, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Skyrim, Mario Kart and National Basketball Association 2K17. During the trailer, we saw a few new games coming to the system, including some from big Nintendo franchises.

Earlier this morning, Nintendo finally announced their new console, called the Switch.

Nintendo Switch includes a tiny controller (Joy-Con Left and Joy-Con Right). "While we are not confirming any specific titles at this time, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo and support of the Switch". The new console has bright high-definition display.

A price tag for Nintendo's new platform hasn't provided, but judging from a recent prediction from analyst Michael Pachter, Nintendo will likely sell the Switch between $ 200 and $ 250 United States dollars.

Nintendo demonstrated the capabilities of the system in a special preview trailer posted to the Japanese gaming giant's website.

The Kyoto-based games company, which plans to launch the console globally in March, did not reveal pricing details.
